Why isn't Rainmaker reading my shots?Updated a month ago

Start with your setup position

Most missed shots are caused by incorrect placement. Before troubleshooting anything else, verify all of the following:

  • Distance from ball: Rainmaker should be approximately 5 feet behind the golf ball.
  • Alignment: The unit must be aimed directly down the target line — not angled left or right.
  • Level: Rainmaker should sit flat and level with the hitting surface. Tilt in any direction reduces accuracy.
  • Ball flight: Allow at least 10 feet of ball flight in front of the hitting area. Less than this — especially with a net placed too close — is the most common cause of missed readings indoors.

Rainmaker is stuck on the placement screen

If Rainmaker is showing a placement or calibration screen and won't advance:

  1. Confirm the unit is level. Rainmaker uses an internal sensor to verify its position before arming.
  2. Check that the device is on a stable, flat surface — not tilted on a mat edge or uneven ground.
  3. Wait a few seconds after placing it. The sensor needs a moment to settle before it clears the placement check.
  4. If the screen persists, power the unit off and back on, re-level it, and try again.

Shot was hit but nothing registered

If you swung and the Rainmaker didn't capture it:

  • Ball position: Make sure you're hitting from the correct side and distance relative to the unit. Hitting significantly off-center from the target line can cause misses.
  • Net placement: If using a hitting net, ensure it's at least 10 feet from the ball. Nets placed too close absorb the radar return before the unit can track the full flight.
  • Interference: Large metal objects (golf cart, HVAC unit, metal shelving) near the unit can interrupt the radar signal. Move the unit or remove the interference source.
  • Re-arm the unit: After a missed shot, Rainmaker may need a moment to re-arm. Wait 2–3 seconds before hitting the next ball.
  • Lighting: Very bright direct sunlight aimed at the unit can occasionally affect performance. Try repositioning slightly.

Bluetooth connection issues

If Rainmaker isn't connecting to the Launch App or drops connection mid-session:

  1. Close the Launch App fully and reopen it.
  2. On your tablet, go to Bluetooth settings and remove/forget Rainmaker, then re-pair from scratch.
  3. Make sure no other device is connected to the Rainmaker — it can only pair to one device at a time.
  4. Keep your tablet within 30 feet of the unit during a session. Walls and obstructions reduce effective range.
  5. If the connection drops repeatedly, try restarting both the Rainmaker and your tablet before starting a new session.

Readings seem inaccurate or inconsistent

If shots are registering but the data doesn't look right:

  • Check your setup again — even slight misalignment affects carry distance and spin readings.
  • Confirm the club type is set correctly in the Launch App. Club type affects how the data is interpreted.
  • For short irons and wedges, allow more ball flight if possible. Spin readings are more consistent with longer flight paths.
  • Check for a firmware update. Open Device Settings in the Launch App to see if an update is available — firmware updates often include accuracy improvements.

Still not working?

If none of the above resolves the issue, please contact us at [email protected] with a short description of your setup (indoor/outdoor, distance from ball, surface type) and we'll help diagnose it.
